YouTube Monetization Policy Changes Every Creator Should Know

YouTube updated its monetization guidelines to better identify inauthentic, repetitive, and mass-produced content.

What can cause monetization problems?

  • Mass-produced videos using the same template repeatedly
  • AI-generated content with little or no original value
  • Repetitive slideshow or narration videos
  • Simply reading articles, news, or website content
  • Re-uploading other people’s content with minimal changes

What is still allowed?

  • Using AI as a tool for scripting, editing, or creating visuals
  • Adding your own commentary, analysis, or expertise
  • Reaction videos with meaningful commentary
  • Transformative use of clips with substantial editing
  • Original videos that provide genuine value

The key point: Using AI itself does not automatically prevent monetization. The main concern is low-effort, repetitive, and mass-produced content.

2027 Update

YouTube has also announced updated YPP terms that creators will need to accept from February 1, 2027 to continue fully monetizing their content.
